Advisory Boards

Metropolitan Nashville Peer Buddy Project

PURPOSE

We have found it valuable to establish an Advisory Board at each school implementing the Peer Buddy Model. The boards are established to assist with the implementation process and guide the development of the Peer Buddy Program in their own schools. The members of the Advisory Boards generate ideas and suggestions, express any concerns and questions about the program and the implementation process, help facilitate the introduction of the peer tutoring course to all faculty and students, and assist in the evaluation of the Model.

MEMBERS

We suggest that the boards be composed of: (1) one or all of the special education teachers supervising the peer buddies, (2) at least one general education or vocational education teacher, (3) a student representative from the Life Skills classrooms, (4) at least one peer buddy, (5) a parent of a Life Skills students, and (6) a member of the administration or guidance department.

WHEN DO THEY MEET

We recommend that the Advisory Boards meet at least two times during the academic year, once each semester. The current boards have always been able to schedule meetings either during one period in the school day, or immediately after school.
